Decarya Madagascariensis

from $45.00

Strange, armored, and unmistakably ancient. Decarya Madagascariensis is a living relic from the spiny forests of Madagascar. Its thick, sculptural stems are densely covered in rigid, triangular spines arranged in precise vertical rows, creating a dramatic, almost architectural surface that feels both primitive and intentional.

The plant’s silvery-gray to muted green epidermis enhances its stark geometry, while its slow, deliberate growth emphasizes age, patience, and survival. With time, small oval leaves emerge briefly between the spines during active growth, only to retreat again, leaving the plant in its striking skeletal form.

Occasionally, subtle greenish-yellow flowers appear, understated and fleeting, serving as a quiet counterpoint to the plant’s formidable presence.

Potted in a 4" HPC pot with our 90% granular soil mix, this species thrives in bright light, excellent drainage, and restrained watering. Drought-tolerant and slow-growing, it is best suited for collectors drawn to rare, sculptural caudiciforms and spiny succulents.

A botanical armor where geometry, endurance, and deep time converge.
